NCEO Image Classification Workshop

29 March 2023 - 30 March 2023
Bringing together scientists working across different disciplines to share knowledge and insights into the image classification problem
2 day

Image classification is an essential pre-processing step in the retrieval of many geophysical variables from satellite observations. Characterisation of land surface properties (for example surface temperature, NDVI and land cover), cloud type and aerosol properties all require first identifying the appropriate observations to which a given retrieval can be applied.

This workshop aims to bring together scientists working across different disciplines to share knowledge and insights into the image classification problem, particularly focusing on challenging domains where discerning the difference between aerosol, cloud and clear-sky from space is compounded by the underlying surface (for example bright, cold clouds over sea-ice or low-lying warm and dark fog over ocean).

This workshop is organised by the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) and as such is open to all NCEO staff. It is being run in conjunction with the European Space Agency (ESA) Climate Change Initiative (CCI) program.
